Building Re-opening Plan and COVID Precautions
Our most current information regarding COVID regulations for Worship, Classes, and Events at our Building will be listed below. This information will be updated as changes occur.
Update as of January 28, 2021
Your shepherds place a very high value on being together in “one place” to worship. We are thankful that we have the technology to live stream services for those who have compromised health and all of us during the period of shut down.
On Sunday, January 24 the shepherds met with a group of medical professionals who are members at Goodman Oaks. We have prayed, studied recommendations from the scientific community and political leaders, and communicated almost daily with one another about how and when to reopen in-person worship services. Our desire was to inquire of these front-line workers in the medical field to see what their suggestions would be for safely returning to in-person worship.
We met again on the 26th with the ministers to put together a plan for resuming our services here at the building. We are confident that we can return to worship together safely and “maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).
We plan to resume in-person worship services on February 7. That day we will only have the 10 AM service.
Wednesday, February 10 will be our first Bible class and from that point forward, we will have Sunday and Wednesday Bible classes and our regular Sunday morning worship. Encouragers’ class will resume on February 16.
These are the requirements to reopen safely.
Masks are required. (They must cover both the nose and mouth and be worn while in the building, in class as well as in worship.) Do not take them off while singing. A face shield alone is not adequate but it can be combined with a mask. This is per our medical professionals.
You will see that every other pew in the auditorium is taped off. This is to provide for adequate social distancing. Please do not sit in those pews. We also encourage you to maintain your distance when visiting before and after services.
Hand sanitizer is available at the entrances to the auditorium and the foyer. Please make use of it. Proper hand washing is a must.
If you cannot or will not respect the directions provided by your shepherds, we respectfully ask that you continue to utilize the live streaming.
We can do this! We are a community of Christians who love and respect one another and desire to be physically present together to worship God. Your shepherds are confident that we can do this and do it right for the protection of our members. Goodman Oaks has existed for decades as a church that cares for each other and is willing to make sacrifices for the good of our church community. We feel this is an opportunity for us to “love our neighbors as ourselves.” If the apostle Paul can avoid meat if it causes a brother to stumble, we can certainly wear a mask to avoid causing a problem for one of our church community. We got this!
